January 3rd, 2009 will mark Alaska’s 50th anniversary of admittance into the Union. To commemorate this event the Alaska Mint is issuing limited edition, .999 fine, one ounce silver medallions. Each medallion is stamped on the rim edge with a unique serial number; they will only be made on demand through 2009.
The face of the medallion is a reproduction of a popular photo from 1958 showing President Dwight Eisenhower standing with the first governor of the state of Alaska, Mike Stepovich, and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Fred Seaton. Stepovich is holding a copy of the Anchorage Daily News with the headline “WE’RE IN”. This special edition newspaper was flown in a jet bomber to Washington D.C. for distribution to various officials. The reverse of the medallion features the official logo for the 50th Anniversary Statehood Celebration. There is no way to tell how many of these medallions will be minted. If the final mintage comes anywhere close to the number (1,160) of the 35th Statehood medallion made in 1994, this piece may become a classic sooner rather than later.

The Alaska Mint issued the 35th Anniversary medallion in 1994. It is one ounce of .999 fine silver and each piece is serial numbered. The medallion depicts an Alaska Native in front of a caribou with flags of Alaska and the United States. The back of the medallion features the State Seal of Alaska.
We have held a small number of these medallions for 15 years! They are being offering ONLY as part of a set with the above listed 2009 50th Statehood Medallion.
Given the low (and final) mintage of the 1994 medallion, there will be VERY few 35-50 sets in existence when all is said and done (probably well under 200, likely less than 100!). Make sure you have one of those few sets!

To commemorate this event the Alaska Mint is issuing limited edition, .999 fine, one ounce silver medallions. Each medallion is stamped on the rim edge with a unique serial number; they will only be made on demand through 2009.
