The one-ounce Official Alaska State Medallion Proof should be the first medallion in any Alaska collection. It is made of .999 fine silver mined in the State of Alaska and minted under State Statute: 44.09.017. Each medallion is rim stamped with an individual serial number and production is limited to demand through the year of issue. They come encased in an air tight holder with a velvet presentation box and information card. We add an information sheet about wolves in Alaska with each medallion ordered.

Alaska's Timber Wolf is the largest wolf found in the United States and one of the largest in the world, weighing up to 175 pounds. They are fierce, intelligent hunters and very efficient. The social structure of the wolf pack allows them to hunt big game that they would not be able to take one-on-one such as buffalo, elk, caribou and moose. Although there have been no documented accounts of wolves attacking humans in North America, local wisdom suggests keeping a safe distance. Most wolves are various shades of gray, but can range from pure white to black. Usually their coloration is somewhat related to their habitat. Wolves are rarely seen in their natural surrounding. They can make themselves almost invisible even in sparse brush because the coloration of their fur provides excellent camouflage. Those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Alaskan wolf will behold something of the spirit of the Great Land itself, and the true majesty of the wild.

Steve Cross, a resident of Fairbanks, submitted the winning design for the 2015 Official State Medallion.

The one-ounce Official Alaska State Medallion Proof should be the first medallion in any Alaska collection. It is made of .999 fine silver mined in the State of Alaska and minted under State Statute: 44.09.017. Each medallion is rim stamped with an individual serial number and production is limited to demand through the year of issue. They come encased in an air tight holder with a velvet presentation box and information card. We add an information sheet about polar bears in Alaska with each medallion ordered.

Like the plain one ounce silver pieces, these medallions are individually serial numbered and are limited in edition. At the end of the year the gold relief medallions are counted in the total production of one ounce silver medallions.

The two ounce State Medallion offers GREAT detail. As is true with all Official Alaska State medallions the two ounce is limited to demand through 2015, and is presented in an Airtight holder. The heft of these two ounce medallions feels very nice! Generally, well under 100 two ounce medallions are struck each year. If you are looking for an Alaskan keepsake to put on display the two ounce is unbeatable!
