The Humpback Whale will be the design for the 2009 Alaska State Medallion. Clicking on the image to the left will show an enlarged view.

Recently selected by the Alaska Mint and the Alaska Council of Arts, the winning design was submitted by Wanda Culp of Hoonah, Alaska. This is her first design to be chosen for the State Medallion Series.

Side note: Hoonah is a small city located in Southeast Alaska, about 40 miles west of Juneau. It has just over 800 year around residents and sits in a very picturesque part of the State. Follow this link for more Hoonah information: http://www.visithoonah.com/

The 2009 medallion IS NOT YET IN PRODUCTION. We will announce its availability on this site and in the next edition of The Alaska Medallion newsletter, due out by mid October.

We are excited to have The Humpback join the Alaska Medallion Series. As with all past medallions it will be serial numbered and made of .999 fine Alaska Silver. It will be limited in edition to demand through 2009.
